Beautiful Austrian landscapes, historic towns and unforgettable experiences

Our route will take you through picturesque landscapes along the Mura River, where you will enjoy nature, explore small Austrian towns and discover cultural gems. The cycling will start in the mountainous region and gradually descend towards the lower valleys, all the way to historic towns such as Murau, Knittelfeld, Bruck an der Mur and Graz.

Along the way, you’ll have time to visit museums, stroll around towns and enjoy local cuisine. At the end of the route, you’ll enjoy the grand opening of the Radgon champagne and the conclusion of this unforgettable cycling adventure.

In case more than 10 people sign up for the tour, the group will be accompanied by a guide on a bicycle, who will make sure the tour runs smoothly and guide you through all the stages of the route.

Day 1, 18 June 2025

Transfer to Austria and the first kilometres along the river Mura!

We’ll start early in the morning, as we set off for beautiful Austria in comfortable transport and a bike trailer. Our first destination will be the High Tauern National Park in Lungau, where the Mura River emerges from the mountains as a peaceful stream. We’ll cycle along the picturesque river, gradually descend towards Tamsweg and finish the first part of our cycling adventure in the charming town of Murau.

Murau is a charming Austrian town, known for its historic architecture and beautiful surrounding countryside. Here, we’ve arranged comfortable accommodation in a four-star hotel, where a hearty breakfast awaits you for the perfect start to your second day.

(Spielberg) Knittelfeld

After a delicious hotel breakfast, we’ll drop our luggage in the escort vehicle and get on our bikes! 65 kilometres of scenic cycle routes between Murau and Knittelfeld. After cycling, we will use our free time to explore the old town, visit the legendary Red Bull Ring and have dinner in one of the local restaurants.

If Formula 1 doesn’t appeal to you, you can spend an afternoon exploring the railway museum or visit thelargest carnival museum in Austria, which offers a fascinating insight into local traditions.

We are staying in a 4-star double-star hotel with breakfast included.

Knittelfeld - Bruck an der Mur

After a hotel breakfast and coffee in town, we will load our luggage into the escort vehicle and set off on Stage 3, which will take us through 51 kilometres of beautiful landscapes with 420 metres of climbing. This stage will be the easiest of our cycling journey along the Mura River, as the mountains will slowly be left behind and the greener hills will follow us.

In the afternoon, we will have the opportunity to visit the Bruck an der Mur Nature Conservation Centre, where injured and protected wildlife has been cared for since 1977. After this relaxing tour, we will have dinner in one of the local restaurants, and then enjoy a comfortable two-star hotel, where we will enjoy a quiet evening and breakfast the next day.

Bruck an der Mur - Graz

Our cycling journey is about to enter the second half! We will leave Bruck an der Mur in the morning, and the next stop will almost be our home town of Graz. The route will take us through picturesque countryside, past numerous farms and orchards, all the way to the 61-kilometre cycle ride, where you will climb 550 vertical metres. When we reach Graz, you will have the opportunity to spend an afternoon exploring in peace this largest city on our route along the river Mura.

After cycling, we will spend the night in Graz, where we will enjoy double rooms with breakfast in a 4-star hotel.

The final stage to Gornja Radgona!

The end of the cycling adventure along the River Mura is still ahead of us! The last stage will be the longest, but with the easiest climb. From Graz to Gornja Radgona, you will cover 86.5 kilometres with only 160 metres of climbing. After the first 50 kilometres, you will reach Šentil, where you can decide whether to continue your journey to the finish in Gornja Radgona via Austria or Slovenia. In either case, you will finish at the bridge over the Mura in Radgona, which was inaugurated in 1969 by the Presidents of Yugoslavia and Austria.

The cycling will end with the opening of the Radgon champagne, and you can enjoy lunch in one of the local restaurants if you wish. The return to Celje is scheduled for 14:30.

Our trip includes:

  • transport by the organiser’s vehicles on the route Celje – Lungau – Gornja Radgona – Celje,
  • 4 nights’ accommodation with breakfast in a double room in 3* hotels,
  • 5 days of escort during cycling,
  • quick service while cycling,
  • refreshment stations (sweet, savoury snacks and drinks for while cycling),
  • preparing a .gps track that can be downloaded to your navigation devices,
  • preparation and organisation costs.

What is the weather like in Austria in June?

In June, the weather in Austria around the River Main is usually warm, with temperatures between 20°C and 25°C, but warm days up to 30°C and occasional local precipitation are also possible.

What about in case of bad weather?

In case of bad weather, we adapt the activities to the weather forecast, prepare an alternative route or, in the worst case, move to the next hotel with an escort vehicle.
