Gravel adventure through the wild Velebit!

Discover the magic of Velebit on an unforgettable 7-day gravel adventure, where endless dirt roads meet jaw-dropping views and iconic historic scenic routes. The trip starts in the charming mountain town of Fužine in Croatia’s Gorski Kotar, then takes you deep into the wild landscapes of Northern Velebit—where smooth pavement quickly turns into a maze of gravel roads surrounded by forests and rugged peaks.

On legendary climbs like Zavižan, you’ll be rewarded with sweeping views of the Adriatic Sea and its islands. From there, we explore the heart of Velebit, riding through remote rocky summits and across the dramatic karst valleys of Lika. One of the highlights is the famous Majstorska Road, one of Croatia’s most spectacular panoramic routes, dropping you into the stunning Zrmanja River valley. The journey wraps up with an epic descent through breathtaking nature, rich history, and unforgettable scenery at every turn.

On the final day, we’ll top it all off with a visit to the stunning Plitvice Lakes National Park, followed by a stop at the legendary Željava Air Base—one of the most iconic abandoned military sites in this part of Europe.

This cycling trip is perfect for gravel bikes, mountain bikes, and e-MTBs. All of our trips are designed for maximum enjoyment on the bike. If any stage feels too challenging, our support vehicle is always available, so you can shorten the route whenever you need. Every stage can be adjusted to fit each rider’s abilities and preferences.

On this trip, you’ll ride an average of 75 km and 1074 meters of elevation gain per day.

Day 1

Hello Croatia!

Your cycling adventure begins at Zagreb Airport, where we meet at 12:00 PM and travel together to Opatija, one of Croatia’s most charming seaside towns. After arriving, you’ll settle into your accommodation, unpack, and get comfortable as we prepare for the week ahead.

Our team will help you with bike setup, equipment checks, and final adjustments, making sure everything is perfectly ready for the first ride. Later in the afternoon, you’ll have free time for an individual walk through the town and a relaxing stroll along the coast, soaking in the sea views and the laid-back Mediterranean atmosphere.

In the evening, we come together for a welcome dinner, where we introduce the full itinerary and go through the plan for the days ahead. It’s the perfect way to start the trip — relaxed, social, and full of excitement for the adventure to come.

⭐ Today’s Must-See Highlights

  • Opatija – Known for its beautiful coastal promenade, historic villas, and a relaxed Mediterranean atmosphere. With stunning views over the Adriatic, charming parks, and great cafés and restaurants.
Day 2 - Cycling from Fužine to Senj

Mountain Lakes and the Adriatic!

Fužine, known for its karst cave, three lakes, and refreshing mountain climate, is a popular summer getaway in Croatia. Our first day of riding takes us into the mysterious inland landscapes on a mix of paved roads and gravel tracks. Around halfway through the route, our support vehicle will be waiting for us — the perfect spot for a snack break with beautiful sea views before we continue through a scenic maze of fields and forests, surrounded by powerful mountain peaks. And if we’re lucky, we might even spot wild horses along the way!

With stunning views guiding us all the way to the finish, we’ll complete the stage after roughly 60 km, arriving in the charming coastal town of Senj. After checking into our hotel, we head out for dinner at a local restaurant and wrap up the day in a relaxed, enjoyable atmosphere.

⭐ Today’s Must-See Highlights

  • Wild horse spotting (23 km)
  • Breathtaking Adriatic sea views (47 km)
  • Town of Senj (55,5 km) – A relaxed sea side finish with great cafés and views — the ideal place to end the day and soak in the ride.

Day 3 - Cycling from Senj to Jablanac

To the Heart of Velebit!

After breakfast at the hotel, we’ll load your luggage into the support vehicle, and you’ll start riding along the stunning Adriatic Coastal Road toward the fishing village of Sveti Juraj. The first 8 km along the coastline fly by quickly — then the real challenge begins: a 15 km climb with nearly 1,000 meters of elevation gain. Don’t worry — breathtaking views of the sea, Goli Otok, and the islands of Rab will make every switchback worth it.

At around km 30, our support vehicle will be waiting for you, giving you the perfect chance to refuel and recharge. From there, you’ll continue on your own as the route takes you deep into Northern Velebit National Park, where driving isn’t possible and the wilderness truly takes over.

Before the finish, you’ll reach the Alan Mountain Hut, and then the route rewards you with an epic 25km long descent down to the seaside town of Jablanac. A cozy hotel right by the sea and a delicious dinner will be waiting for us — the perfect end to an unforgettable day.

Day 4 - Cycling from Jablanac to Gospič

Through Lika’s Gravel Maze!

The day starts with a hearty, authentic breakfast. After packing up, you’ll have a choice: today you can either start riding directly from the hotel, or hop into the support vehicle and skip the first big climb — saving yourself around 1,300 meters of elevation gain (the same climb you enjoyed as an epic descent yesterday).

From there, we dive back into the central part of Northern Velebit, where endless forests and a true labyrinth of gravel roads are waiting. Along the way, you’ll ride beneath the dramatic rocky peaks known as “kuki”, rising high above the treetops. The route takes you past the stunning Rožanski and Hajdučki Kuki, along remote gravel tracks and through short tunnels that make the whole ride feel like a real expedition.

Our support vehicle will be available throughout the entire stage, with planned stops and well-earned snack breaks along the way. In the final part of the route, we connect to the regional road linking Karlobag and Gospić, before turning back onto quieter side roads that lead across the wide karst fields of the Lika region.

⭐ Today’s Must-See Highlights

  • Endless Velebit Forests (19 km) – Ride deep into the green wilderness of the mountains.
  • Scenic Gravel Road through Dabarske Kukve (26.7 km) – A panoramic section with unreal views and rugged rock formations.
  • Gospić (84.7 km) – Finish the day in the heart of Lika, surrounded by true Croatian highland vibes.

Day 5 - Cycling from Gospič to Obrovac

Croatia’s Most Epic Ride!

After breakfast and handing your luggage over to the support vehicle, you’ll set off for another day packed with adventure. The first part of the stage includes around 40 km of easy, mostly flat riding on mainly gravel roads through the quiet, sparsely populated landscapes of Lika. At our first refreshment stop, you’ll refuel, top up your bottles, and get ready for the main highlight of the day — the legendary Majstorska Road.

Built in 1819 under the initiative of the Austrian court to create a faster connection to Zadar (which was the administrative center of Dalmatia at the time), this historic route is as impressive as it is scenic. You’ll ride along gravel roads between Sveti Rok and Obrovac, with the final section descending on asphalt past the exit of the Sveti Rok highway tunnel. Often called the most beautiful panoramic road in Croatia, Majstorska Road is a true treat for anyone who loves wild nature, epic views, and unforgettable cycling.

The stage finishes with a stunning descent into the Zrmanja River Canyon, followed by hotel check-in in Obrovac. The afternoon is yours to relax, and the day ends perfectly with dinner in one of the local restaurants.

⭐ Today’s Must-See Highlights

  • Climb on Majstorska Road (67 km) – A historic gravel ascent with next-level panoramic views.
  • Tulove Grede (72.1 km) – Iconic rocky formations and one of the most dramatic landscapes in Croatia.
  • Zrmanja River Canyon (92.2 km) – An epic descent into a breathtaking canyon above turquoise waters.

Day 6 - Cycling from Plitvice Lakes to Željava and back

Final Ride: Plitvice Lakes & the Legendary Željava Air Base!

After a big breakfast, we’ll load all luggage and your bikes into the support vehicles. Then we’ll head out on a scenic transfer of just under two hours to the start of our final cycling stage.

Both the start and finish of today’s ride are at the world-famous Plitvice Lakes National Park — Croatia’s most iconic natural wonder, known for its turquoise lakes, wooden walkways, and countless waterfalls surrounded by deep green forests. It’s one of those places that truly feels unreal in real life.

Today’s route takes you past the lakes and across beautiful countryside all the way to the legendary Željava Air Base, one of the largest underground military airbases in Europe. Hidden beneath the mountains and built during the Cold War era, it’s a fascinating and atmospheric place to explore — a mix of history, mystery, and pure adventure.

After our visit, we ride back toward Plitvice, where our final hotel is waiting. We highly recommend using the rest of the day to explore Plitvice Lakes on foot — trust us, you won’t regret it. In the evening, we gather for our final dinner and wrap up the trip with the perfect ending to an unforgettable journey.

Today’s Must-See Highlights

  • Željava Air Base (24.2 km) – A legendary underground military base and a true Balkan hidden gem.
  • Plitvice Lakes (48 km) – Crystal-clear lakes and waterfalls in Croatia’s most famous national park.
