Ride the Wild Heart of Slovenia!

Welcome to the ultimate Slovenian road cycling tour — a one-of-a-kind 10-day journey, with 8 unforgettable days in the saddle, averaging 89 km and 1,700 vertical metres per riding day, taking you from Slovenia’s rolling wine country all the way to the Mediterranean coast.

This isn’t a race. It’s an experience — a ride through three completely different geographic worlds packed into one small country.

The Alpine North – the Julian Alps, Karavanke, and Kamnik–Savinja Alps
The Green Heart – forested hills, river valleys, and quiet mountain passes
The Mediterranean Southwest – the Karst plateau, the coastline, and historic salt pans

Every day shows you a new face of Slovenia: winding switchbacks that climb toward postcard-perfect views, glacier-carved valleys, medieval towns, peaceful riverside bike routes, and finally the grand descent toward the Adriatic Sea — where your cycling adventure ends on the stunning coastline of Piran.

All of our trips are designed for maximum enjoyment on the bike. If any stage feels too challenging, our support vehicle is always available, so you can shorten the route whenever you need. Every stage can be adjusted to fit each rider’s abilities and preferences.

Day 1

Welcome to Slovenia!

On our first day, we’ll pick you up right from the airport. We offer pickup at Zagreb airport at 12:00 PM.

After your transfer, we arrive in Maribor — Slovenia’s second-largest city. Once we settle into the hotel, we take a relaxed afternoon stroll through the old town.

Later, we take some time to prep our gear and bikes, go over the essentials, and make sure everything is ready for the days ahead.

In the evening, we gather for a welcome dinner where we get to know each other, walk through the plan for the journey, and start to feel the rhythm of the adventure that will carry us all the way to the Adriatic Sea.

⭐ Today’s MUST-SEE Highlights in Maribor

  • The Old Vine House — home to the oldest grapevine in the world
  • Lent riverside district (historic waterfront, cafés, medieval charm)
  • Glavni Trg (Main Square) with its baroque architecture
Day 2 - Cycling from Maribor to Zreče

From Easy Warm-Up Miles to the Rogla Summit!

Day 2 begins in Maribor with a relaxed and scenic ride through the Slovenian countryside. The first 40 kilometers are mostly flat, following quiet roads through small villages and green landscapes — a perfect warm-up before the day’s main challenge.

Around kilometer 49, the route reaches the turning point: the climb to the famous Rogla ski resort.

For those who prefer an easier day, there is a comfortable alternative. You can stay at the hotel and rest, rather than cycling uphill, and enjoy the hotel wellness facilities.

For riders continuing on the bike, the road gradually ascends toward Rogla. With around 1,000 meters of elevation gain, the climb rewards you with fresh mountain air, forested landscapes, and wide alpine views at the top of the plateau.

The day finishes with a long, smooth descent back into the valley, ending in the town of Zreče. Here, we check into our hotel, where wellness and comfort provide the perfect setting to relax, recover, and prepare for the next stage of the tour.

⭐ Today’s Must-See Highlights

  • Rogla Ski Resort at km 66 km
  • Rogla Treetop Walk at km 45.6 — an elevated wooden walkway high above the forest canopy, ending at a breathtaking 37-meter observation tower.

Day 3 - Cycling from Zreče to Logar Valley

The Grand Entrance into Logar Valley!

We begin Day 3 in Zreče and head toward Vitanje before climbing gently over the forested pass near Brezno. From here, the route connects to the legendary Štrekna — a former railway line transformed into a beautiful cycling path that winds through tunnels, narrow gorges, and old railway cuttings. It’s the perfect blend of smooth riding and unique scenery.

The trail leads us past the shimmering Velenje Lake, after which we leave the flatter terrain behind and pedal over rolling hills toward the Upper Savinja Valley. With every kilometer, the landscape becomes more dramatic, the mountains closer, and the air cooler.

Soon, a truly magical moment arrives — the first panoramic reveal of Logar Valley, one of the most stunning glacial valleys in all of Europe. Majestic limestone walls rise sharply above emerald meadows, creating a scene that stays with you long after the ride ends.

After checking into our alpine hotel, we highly recommend extending your ride with a short trip deeper into the valley to visit Rinka Waterfall, an iconic natural gem and the perfect finale to an unforgettable day.

⭐ Today’s Must-See Highlights

  • Štrekna Rail Trail at km 24 – A beautifully restored cycling path built on a former railway line, featuring tunnels, gorges, bridges and smooth scenic riding.
  • Velenje Lake at km 36 – A crystal-blue lake with a relaxing atmosphere — a great place to stop for a drink and enjoy the view.

  • Rinka Waterfall at the very end of the valley – With a 90-meter drop, it’s one of Slovenia’s most famous waterfalls — absolutely worth the extra ride.

Day 4 - Cycling from Logar Valley to Škofja Loka

A Relaxed Finish Near Ljubljana!

We begin Day 4 by leaving the magical Logar Valley and climbing toward Pavličevo Pass — a scenic mountain pass that connects Slovenia with Austria’s Carinthia region. After crossing the border, a fast descent takes us into Austria, followed by a quick climb to Jezerski Vrh, where we re-enter Slovenia almost immediately.

From here, the tone of the day shifts entirely: a long, smooth descent carries us through the peaceful Kokra Valley, gradually leaving the Kamnik–Savinja Alps behind.

We continue toward Kropa, a historic blacksmith town rich in tradition and craftsmanship. The route then takes us over Podblica — the hometown of worl-class cyclist Matej Mohorič — before descending into the charming medieval town of Škofja Loka, where tonight’s hotel awaits.

For the afternoon and evening, we offer transfer to Slovenia’s capital, Ljubljana, just 20 km away. Enjoy the old town, stroll along the river, explore boutiques, or pick a restaurant — Ljubljana is full of amazing dining options.

⭐ Today’s Must-See Highlights

  • Pavličevo Sedlo km 14 – A panoramic mountain pass (1,338 m / 4,390 ft) linking Slovenia and Austria, known for its impressive switchbacks and breathtaking ridge views.

Day 5 - Cycling from Škofja Loka to Lake Bled

A Slice of Slovenia’s Sweetest Tradition!

We leave Škofja Loka on Day 5 and head back into alpine terrain — this time toward the Julian Alps. The route begins with a steady climb into Davča, Slovenia’s largest and most scattered village, spread across countless hills and valleys where the road is never quite flat.

After a short descent, we take on the main climb of the day: Soriška Planina — a panoramic mountain plateau offering wide-open views across the Julian Alps.
From the top, a long, flowing descent carries toward Lake Bohinj.

This glacier-fed lake is one of Slovenia’s true natural jewels — peaceful, crystal clear, and surrounded by towering peaks. A stop here is practically mandatory; it’s simply too beautiful to ride past.

We continue along a well-maintained cycling route toward Lake Bled, home to one of Europe’s most iconic postcard views: a tiny church on an island and a medieval castle perched on a cliff above turquoise water.
And yes — this is the perfect moment to try the famous local dessert: kremšnita (Bled cream cake), a fluffy vanilla-custard slice layered with cream and delicate pastry. A must-have experience.

The day ends in Ribno, where a comfortable alpine-style hotel awaits.

⭐ Today’s Must-See Highlights

  • Soriška Planina at km 55 – A beautiful alpine lookout point with panoramic views across the Julian Alps — absolutely worth the climb.

Day 6 - Cycling from Lake Bled to Kranjska Gora

The Alpine Coffee Ride!

Day 6 begins in Ribno with an easy spin toward Bled. Before the ride truly unfolds, the morning is dedicated to a planned visit to Vintgar Gorge — a stunning natural canyon carved by the Radovna River, famous for its wooden walkways, emerald pools, and waterfalls. It’s one of Slovenia’s most beautiful short walks and a perfect way to start a relaxed day.

After the visit, we enjoy a lunch, followed by a gentle coffee ride. Today is all about slowing down and recovering — a true easy day on the bike.

The route descends toward Krnica and continues into Mojstrana, a charming alpine village at the gateway to Triglav National Park. For those seeking more adventure, the route can be extended into the Vrata Valley, where the road dramatically ends beneath the towering north face of Triglav, Slovenia’s highest mountain.

All other riders continue along a smooth cycling path toward Kranjska Gora, our destination for the day. This picturesque alpine town offers cafés, mountain views, and a calm atmosphere — ideal for rest and recovery. Our hotel awaits here, completing a short and scenic stage designed to recharge both legs and spirit.

Day 7 - Cycling from Kranjska Gora to Bovec

The Queen Stage!

Day 7 is a true alpine classic. We begin in Kranjska Gora and immediately tackle the legendary climb to Vršič Pass (1,611 m / 5,285 ft) — the highest paved mountain pass in Slovenia. Its famous cobblestone switchbacks, built by Russian prisoners of war, wind upward between towering vertical walls of the Julian Alps.

After reaching the summit, a spectacular descent takes us into the Trenta Valley, the heart of Triglav National Park. Here, the emerald-green Soča River flows like a glowing ribbon through the mountains — it’s absolutely worth stopping; the views are unforgettable.

We continue through Bovec, where the second major act of the Queen Stage begins: the ascent to Mangart Saddle (2,055 m / 6,742 ft) — often considered one of the most beautiful road climbs in all of Europe. The road climbs dramatically through tunnels, along cliffs, and between massive alpine peaks, until the view from the saddle opens into a panorama that every cyclist dreams of.

From the top, we descend the same scenic road back into the valley and finish the day near Bovec — tired, inspired, and completely satisfied.

Day 8 - Cycling from Bovec to Nova Gorica

From Alpine Rivers to Wine Country!

We begin Day 8 in Bovec, rolling gently through the valley with the Soča River beside us in its most striking emerald color. The opening kilometers undulate pleasantly as we ride past the historic Napoleon Bridge near Kobarid. Soon after, the road tilts upward in Idrsko — the climb to Livek begins.

Reaching the top, we’re rewarded with panoramic views stretching toward Matajur, Krn, and the nearby Italian border. From here, the route follows scenic ridge roads right along the frontier, leading us to Kambreško, where the rugged Julian Alps slowly give way to the warmer, softer climate of the west.

A rolling section follows until we reach Goriška Brda, Slovenia’s very own “Tuscany” — a region of vineyard-covered hills, sunlit ridgelines, and panoramic views in every direction.

The final part of the day adds a playful twist, with two crossings of the Slovenian–Italian border, before we descend into Nova Gorica, the city of roses and a crossroads of Alpine and Mediterranean cultures.

Day 9 - Cycling from Nova Gorica to Piran

The Final Descent to the Coast!

On Day 9, as we leave Nova Gorica, the alpine world fades behind us and the terrain transforms into classic Karst scenery — rocky ridgelines, warm winds, and Mediterranean vegetation. We ride through Branik and soon reach the charming stone village of Štanjel.

Štanjel is one of the oldest settlements in the Karst region, famous for its narrow medieval streets and the stunning Ferrar’s Garden, a beautifully designed terraced park overlooking the valley. A stop here is absolutely worth it.

We continue toward Lipica, home of the world-famous Lipizzaner horses. Here, expansive pastures and elegant white stallions create a scene straight out of a postcard — and you can often watch the horses grazing just steps from the road.

Crossing into Italy, the valley of Rossandra signals a dramatic change: the landscape drops sharply, announcing that the sea is near. After re-entering Slovenia, we descend through olive groves and vineyards until we reach Koper, our first touchpoint with the Adriatic.

From here, a beautiful coastal cycling path guides us along the shoreline through Izola and Portorož, before we finish the day in Piran — a stunning seaside town where alpine stories end in the warm embrace of the Mediterranean. And yes… this is the perfect moment for a refreshing swim in the sea.

⭐ Today’s Must-See Highlights

  • Štanjel at km 25 – A historic hilltop village with incredible stone architecture and the iconic Ferrar’s Garden — one of the Karst region’s gems.
  • Lipica at km 47.5 – The legendary stud farm of the Lipizzaner horses — expansive pastures, elegant white stallions, and a deep cultural heritage.
