7 Days Between the Alps, Karst & Slovenia’s Capital!

Welcome to Ljubljana, one of Europe’s greenest capitals—and the perfect home base for exploring Slovenia’s most beautiful roads. Over seven unforgettable days, we ride through three distinct faces of the country: the Alpine world, the mysterious Karst landscape, and the cultural heart of Slovenia.

Ljubljana is our home for the entire week, which means a relaxed rhythm and no daily packing. Each day reveals a completely different riding experience:

North – Alpine roads toward the Kamnik–Savinja Alps, Jezersko, and Kranjska Gora
West – Rolling climbs around Škofja Loka and scenic roads of the Gorenjska region
South – Wild Inner Carniola, the magic of Lake Cerknica, and classic Karst terrain
Center – Time to experience Ljubljana itself: architecture, food, and life along the Ljubljanica River

The routes feature iconic climbs, panoramic roads, and picturesque valleys, perfectly suited for experienced road cyclists as well as passionate riders who live for elevation and views.

After every stage, we return to Ljubljana—a city of bridges, parks, cafés, and a vibrant old town—offering an authentic cultural experience to match the riding.

All of our trips are designed for maximum enjoyment on the bike. If any stage feels too challenging, our support vehicle is always available, so you can shorten the route whenever you need. Every stage can be adjusted to fit each rider’s abilities and preferences.

Day 1

Welcome to Slovenia!

Day one is all about settling in—no riding yet, but the adventure already begins. Guests arrive at Zagreb Airport, where we meet at 12:00 PM and travel together to our home base for the week: Ljubljana—a vibrant, green capital rich in history and character.

After checking into our centrally located hotel, we take time to set up bikes, inspect equipment, and make sure everything is dialed in for the days ahead. The afternoon is easy and unhurried—perfect for a first stroll along the Ljubljanica River or a quick wander through the charming old town.

In the evening, we gather for a welcome dinner, get to know the group and guides, and walk through what’s coming in the days ahead. It’s a calm, well-paced introduction to a week filled with mountains, passes, lakes, and Slovenia’s most iconic scenery—with Ljubljana as our comfortable, familiar home base throughout the journey.

Day 2 - Cycling from Ljubljana to Logar Valley

To the mountains!

On day two, we roll out of Ljubljana and ease into the ride with a warm-up through Tacen, following the Sava River. The terrain gradually rises as we head north, passing through Šenčur, and Tupalice, spinning smoothly across the flats until the Alpine backdrop of Jezersko comes into view.

The road tilts upward as we begin the climb to Jezerski Vrh (1,218 m)—a steady, flowing ascent with long, quiet switchbacks and views that grow more dramatic with every kilometer. At the saddle, the landscape opens toward Solčava, setting the stage for the second highlight of the day: the climb to Pavlič Pass (1,338 m), one of Slovenia’s most beautiful mountain crossings, with sweeping panoramas stretching deep into Austrian Carinthia.

From the top, we descend into the Solčava region and ride straight into the heart of the Logar Valley—a dramatic glacial valley enclosed by the towering walls of the KamnikSavinja Alps. The stage finishes at the end of the road, beneath the powerful Rinka Waterfall. We take a short walk to the falls to feel the cool mist rising from the rock amphitheater—an unforgettable Alpine moment.

After a day of climbing, views, and 86 km of pure Alpine riding, we load up in comfortable van and return to Ljubljana.

⭐ Today’s Must-See Highlights

  • Zgornje Jezersko (54 km) – A stunning sub-Alpine region with wide-open views

Day 3 - Cycling from Ljubljana to Lake Bled

Rolling Peaks to Alpine Icons!

On day three, we leave Ljubljana behind and dive straight into the rolling, constantly changing roads of the Polhov Gradec Dolomites. In Polhov Gradec, the road quickly gets serious as we begin the climb to Pasja Ravan (1,020 m)—one of the finest viewpoints in central Slovenia. From the top, the views stretch across the Julian Alps, the KamnikSavinja Alps, and deep into the Inner Carniola landscape.

We descend toward Hotovlja and continue through Četena Ravan, before riding via Bukovica into the Škofja Loka hills. The route takes us past Podblica, the birthplace of Matej Mohorič, a world-class rider known for his fearless descending and Grand Tour victories. From here on, the character of the ride subtly shifts—hills grow taller, the air cooler, and the roads more winding as we approach the Alpine world of Gorenjska.

We continue toward Kropa, once famous for its blacksmiths, and then on to Radovljica. The final kilometers lead us to Lake Bled, Slovenia’s most iconic Alpine destination. Here, we take time to visit the castle, stroll along the lakeshore, and—of course—treat ourselves to a Bled cream cake (kremšnita): a legendary local dessert made of layers of crisp puff pastry, rich vanilla custard, and whipped cream. It’s light, indulgent, and absolutely non-negotiable.

After a full and rewarding day in the saddle, we load up and return comfortably to Ljubljana.

⭐ Today’s Must-See Highlights

  • Pasja Ravan (34 km) – A stunning panoramic viewpoint over the surrounding Alps
  • Podblica (72 km) – Birthplace of world-class cyclist Matej Mohorič

Day 4 - Cycling from Ljubljana to Postojna Caves

Ljubljana Marsh and Karst!

On day four, we head south from Ljubljana and quickly enter the Ljubljana Marsh (Ljubljansko barje)—a vast wetland south of the city, shaped by water over thousands of years. This unique landscape of flat meadows, drainage canals, peat soils, and traditional marsh houses is one of Slovenia’s most important natural and cultural areas. Riding through Črna Vas, the atmosphere is calm and open, a complete contrast to the mountains we’ve been riding earlier in the week.

Near Podpeč, the road finally tilts upward as we begin the day’s main climb to Rakitna. This steady ascent leads us onto a forested plateau where dense woods give way to high alpine meadows and wide views across the Inner Carniola region—a quiet, remote-feeling ride that rewards every pedal stroke.

From Rakitna, we descend and continue toward Cerknica, where one of Slovenia’s greatest natural wonders awaits: Lake Cerknica. This famous intermittent lake fills and disappears with the seasons, transforming from a vast body of water into open grassland and back again.

We continue through the dramatic karst valley of Rakov Škocjan, then ride on toward Rakek and Unec, where the landscape becomes unmistakably karstic: limestone rock, sinkholes, and rugged terrain define the final kilometers.

The day finishes in Postojna, with time to visit the world-famous Postojna Cave—the largest cave system in Slovenia and one of Europe’s most impressive karst phenomena. The caves are so vast that part of the tour is done by underground train, a truly unique experience. After the visit, we load up and return comfortably to Ljubljana.

⭐ Today’s Must-See Highlights

  • Ljubljana Marsh (5 km) – A unique wetland landscape shaped by water, canals, and peat plains
  • Lake Cerknica (46 km) – A legendary intermittent lake that appears and disappears with the seasons
  • Postojna Cave (64.7 km) – Slovenia’s largest cave system, explored partly by underground train

Day 5 - Cycling from Ljubljana to Kamnik

Chasing Legends!

On day five, we leave Ljubljana heading north through Šentvid and Tacen, with the KamnikSavinja Alps already rising in the background. The route takes us through Vodice and onward to Komenda, where the terrain stays smooth and rolling—perfect for settling into the rhythm before the major climb of the day.

In Klanec pri Komendi, the birthplace of Tadej Pogačar—widely regarded as one of the greatest cyclists of all time—the cycling spirit of this region becomes unmistakable. From here, we begin the ascent toward Krvavec, one of Slovenia’s most famous and beautiful climbs. The road pitches up through dense forest before opening onto a high mountain plateau beneath the ski resort, home to the legendary viewpoint known as the “Krvavec Beach”. From here, panoramic views stretch across much of central Slovenia.

Descending from Krvavec, we roll across undulating terrain toward Šenturška Gora and continue through Tunjice, where forests gradually give way to open meadows and a brighter, more pastoral landscape.

The day finishes in Kamnik, one of Slovenia’s most charming historic towns, known for its medieval old town, castle ruins, and dramatic Alpine backdrop—an ideal place to end a truly iconic ride.

⭐ Today’s Must-See Highlights

  • Klanec pri Komendi (25 km) – Birthplace of Tadej Pogačar, one of the greatest cyclists in history
  • Krvavec Ski Resort (48 km) – A legendary Slovenian climb with wide-open views over central Slovenia

Day 6 - Cycling from Kranjska Gora to Lago del Predil

High Above the Clouds!

Day six begins with a morning transfer to Kranjska Gora, where the dramatic north faces of the Julian Alps rise sharply above us—setting the stage for one of the most iconic cycling days in Slovenia. Right from the town center, we start the climb to Vršič Pass (1,611 m), the highest road pass in the country. The ascent winds its way up historic cobblestone switchbacks—known as the famous Russian hairpins—surrounded by sheer Alpine walls and classic high-mountain scenery.

From the summit, a spectacular descent drops us into the Trenta Valley, where the road follows the emerald-green Soča River through long, flowing bends. The crystal-clear river offers the perfect chance for a refreshing stop along the way. We continue past Bovec, where the second major challenge of the day begins.

The climb to Mangart Saddle (2,055 m) is one of the highest and most breathtaking paved road climbs in Europe. The road rises dramatically through tunnels and exposed sections carved into the rock, until the summit delivers an unforgettable, jaw-dropping panorama—one that leaves even the most seasoned riders speechless.

We descend toward Italy to Lake Predil, where a swim and short break await beside a pristine mountain lake. After relaxing in this Alpine oasis, we load up and return comfortably to Ljubljana.

⭐ Today’s Must-See Highlights
