Cycling Over France’s Most Iconic Mountain Passes!

France is home to some of the most breathtaking Alpine climbs in the world — and we’ve explored many of them on our cycling tours over the years. But we also often hear from riders who feel that our full week-long France trips might be a bit too demanding.

That’s exactly why we created MINI France: a perfectly packed cycling tour featuring the best of the best — or as the French would say, the true “crème de la crème.

Legendary climbs like Alpe d’Huez, Col du Galibier, Col d’Izoard, Col du Croix de Fer, and the magical Lacets de Montvernier have been part of the Tour de France story for nearly a century. And now, it’s your turn to ride them — on a unique 5-day cycling adventure you’ll never forget.

On average, we’ll ride 73 km per day with 1,925 meters of elevation gain.

Day 1

Welcome to Italy!

Your cycling adventure begins in Milan — and we’ll make sure everything is smooth, simple, and stress-free from the moment you land. We’ll pick you up at Milan Airport at 1:00 PM, then head straight into the Alps with a transfer to Sauze d’Oulx, where our hotel will be waiting for us.

Once we check in, we’ll take care of the essentials: bike setup and final adjustments, so everything feels dialed in and ready for the days ahead.

In the evening, we’ll come together for a group dinner, the perfect chance to get to know each other, enjoy great food, and go over the route plan — so everyone feels confident and excited for the adventure ahead.

⭐ Today’s Must-See Highlights

  • Oulx – A charming Alpine town in Italy’s Susa Valley, surrounded by dramatic peaks and classic mountain scenery. It’s the perfect gateway to some of the most iconic climbs in the region.
Day 2 - Cycling from Oulx to Briancon

Your First French Alps Summit Day!

Our first riding day kicks off with an unforgettable start — we’ll roll straight into the French Alps and ease into the day with a steady warm-up climb over the border. The reward comes quickly: fast, smooth descents, dramatic mountain views, and that pure “this is why we ride” feeling.

After a scenic drop into the valley, the road tilts up again for the main event of the day: Col d’Izoard (2,360 m). It’s an iconic 18 km climb, and as you gain altitude the landscape turns into a full-on Alpine masterpiece — wide-open panoramas, rugged peaks, and that legendary high-mountain atmosphere you’ve seen in the Tour de France.

Once we reach the top, it’s time to enjoy the views, snap the classic summit photo, and then dive into a thrilling descent back down to town — where a comfortable hotel and a well-earned recovery are waiting.

⭐ Today’s Must-See Highlights

  • Briançon – A UNESCO-listed fortress town and one of the highest cities in Europe, packed with history, charm, and incredible mountain scenery.
  • Col d’Izoard (2,360 m) – A true Tour de France legend and one of the most famous climbs in the French Alps, known for its epic scenery and unforgettable summit vibes.

Day 3 - Cycling from Briancon to Villar d’Arêne

Legendary Climbs Day!

After breakfast, we’ll load your luggage into the support vehicle and get ready for a true French Alps classic. Today starts with the climb to the legendary Col du Galibier, a name every cyclist knows — and one that’s special for Slovenians too. It was right here in 2017 that Primož Roglič took his first ever Tour de France stage win, making history for Slovenia.

The ascent to the top is a serious one: 35 km with around 1,300 meters of climbing. Along the way, we’ll stop at a well-timed refreshment station at Col du Lautaret, about 10 km below the summit, where you can rest, refill bottles, and get ready for the final push.

At the top — sitting at an incredible 2,645 meters above sea level — we’ll have another quick stop for snacks, photos, and that unbeatable “I can’t believe we’re up here” feeling. Then we’ll descend the same way back to Lautaret before continuing toward Les 2 Alpes, where we’ll take on the climb to this famous Alpine resort.

After the ride, we’ll head back toward Villar d’Arêne, where we’ll spend the night and recover for the next day. And if you’d like a shorter option, it’s easy to skip the Les 2 Alpes climb and keep the day more relaxed.

⭐ Today’s Must-See Highlights

  • Col du Galibier (2,645 m) – One of the most iconic climbs in the Tour de France and a true bucket-list pass, famous for its high altitude, epic views, and legendary racing history.
  • Les 2 Alpes (1,650 m) – A world-famous ski resort and mountain playground, known for its Alpine scenery and big mountain energy.

Day 4 - Cycling from Villar d’Arêne to Alpe d'Huez

Epic Alpine Ride: Alpe d’Huez & Hidden Sarenne!

This is one of the most iconic climbs in cycling — Alpe d’Huez, a legendary ascent that has been featured in the Tour de France 32 times since its first appearance in 1952, making it one of the most celebrated climbs in race history.

After a fast descent into the valley and a few warm-up kilometers, you’ll begin the nearly 14-kilometer climb with about 1,150 meters of elevation gain. The switchbacks, scenery, and sense of achievement make every pedal stroke worth it.

Once you’ve conquered the summit, you’ll have two options: ride on to explore the hidden gem of Col de Sarenne — just 8 km and 400 meters of climbing away — or head back to relax, rest, and enjoy the town. Col de Sarenne is a rare find on cycling tours and returns to the Tour de France route in 2026 — a perfect spot for unforgettable views and quiet Alpine beauty.

⭐ Today’s Must-See Highlights

  • Alpe d’Huez – One of the most famous climbs in the Tour de France, known for its 21 iconic hairpins and legendary race moments.
  • Col de Sarenne – A beautiful, lesser-ridden pass that’s making a return to the Tour de France in 2026, offering dramatic mountain panoramas and a truly special riding experience.

Day 5 - Cycling from Alpe d'Huez to Saint-Jean-de-Maurienne

Summit Day in the Savoy Alps!

After breakfast, we’ll load your luggage into the support vehicle and hit the road. The day starts with a long descent into the valley — the perfect warm-up before the main challenge ahead: the climb to Col de la Croix de Fer (2,067 m), also known as the “Iron Cross Pass.”

It’s a classic French Alps ascent, and if you ever need a hand, don’t worry — our support vehicle is always close by and ready to help.

At the top, you’ll have time to enjoy the views and take in the incredible scenery of the Savoy Alps. After a well-earned snack break, we’ll descend back into the valley and finish the day in Saint-Jean-de-Maurienne, where our hotel will be waiting.

⭐ Today’s Must-See Highlights

  • Lac de Grand’Maison – A stunning turquoise mountain reservoir surrounded by dramatic Alpine scenery.
  • Col du Glandon (1,924 m) – A legendary Alpine pass often climbed together with Croix de Fer.
  • Col de la Croix de Fer (2,067 m) – One of the most iconic climbs in the French Alps, offering big switchbacks, breathtaking panoramas, and a true “bucket-list” summit feeling.

Day 6 - A circular cycling route starting in Saint-Jean-de-Maurienne

One Last Ride!

Today is our last day on the bike — and we’re finishing in style. After a few easy warm-up kilometers, we’ll climb toward Montvernier, home to one of the most ridiculously twisty roads you’ll ever ride. The famous Lacets de Montvernier pack 17 tight switchbacks into a short stretch of road, and it’s pure cycling fun from start to finish.

After a short flatter section, we’ll hit the main climb of the day: the narrow, scenic road up to Col du Sapey (1,358 m). It’s a quieter, lesser-known gem — the kind of climb that feels wild, peaceful, and perfectly “French Alps.”

From the top, we’ll descend down the other side and loop back on a beautiful return route — an ideal final stage to wrap up the trip with great riding and even better views.

To celebrate, we’ll end the day at a local restaurant, where we’ll raise a well-earned toast to an unforgettable week of climbing, conquering, and pure Alpine cycling.

⭐ Today’s Must-See Highlights

  • Lacets de Montvernier – One of the most iconic switchback roads in the Alps, famous for its 17 tight hairpins and unreal photo-worthy views.
  • Col du Sapey (1,358 m) – A hidden Alpine pass on a narrow, scenic road — quiet, beautiful, and the perfect final climb to finish the tour strong.

It depends on the trip. Daily distances are listed in the itinerary. You can shorten a stage using the support vehicle or extend it with an optional climb or loop.
