Scenic Climbs and Quiet Roads

This 7-day road cycling journey is built around a single base in Rogla, allowing you to explore Slovenia’s most diverse cycling terrain without changing hotels.

Journey takes you deep into the green heart of Slovenia, riding a carefully crafted mix of forest roads, panoramic routes, river paths, and quiet countryside. Each day reveals a new landscape — from the wild forests of Pohorje and remote mountain valleys to vineyard-covered hills and wide river plains.

Riders can expect an average of 70 km and around 1,100 metres of elevation gain per day, making this tour challenging enough to feel rewarding while remaining accessible for well-prepared gravel cyclists.

All of our trips are designed for maximum enjoyment on the bike. If any stage feels too challenging, our support vehicle is always available, so you can shorten the route whenever you need. Every stage can be adjusted to fit each rider’s abilities and preferences.

Day 1

Arrival & Rogla Base Camp!

Your cycling adventure begins at Zagreb Airport, where we meet at 12:00 PM and travel together to Rogla, the green heart of Slovenia and our base for the week. After arrival, you’ll settle into your accommodation, unpack, and prepare for the days ahead in a relaxed and comfortable setting.

Our team will assist with bike setup, equipment checks, and final adjustments, making sure everything is perfectly prepared for the first ride. In the evening, we gather for a welcome dinner, where we introduce the weekly program and get to know each other. This is a calm and enjoyable start to the tour, setting the tone for a week of road cycling through the Štajerska region, Pohorje hills, and the scenic valleys of Slovenia — a perfect beginning to an unforgettable cycling journey.

⭐ Today’s Must-See Highlights

  • Rogla Ski Resort
  • Lovrenška Lakes hike – 1h 30min hike (one way) but absolutely worth it!
  • Treetop Walk Rogla (Pot med krošnjami) — an elevated wooden walkway through the forest canopy, ending at a stunning 37-meter observation tower.
Day 2 - Cycling from Rogla to Kope

Pohorje Forest Trails!

Day two delivers a true Pohorje classic. We leave Rogla on quiet southern routes, riding through dense forests and scenic trails near the Lovrenška Lakes, one of Slovenia’s most beautiful high-altitude peat bogs. This unique area is known for its wooden boardwalks, small lakes, and rare mountain vegetation. (The lakes are accessed on foot, so we recommend visiting them on Day 1.)

The route continues through the Ovacarjevo Forest Reserve, leading us toward Kope (1,542 m), one of the highest points in western Pohorje. From here, we descend toward the Pesnik Mountain Hut, a welcoming stop beneath the plateau and a perfect place for a short break. We then continue on gravel roads to Lake Jezerce, a small and peaceful mountain lake hidden among spruce trees, before completing the loop back to Rogla.

⭐ Today’s Must-See Highlights

  • Kope Ski Resort (27 km) – One of the highest points of western Pohorje with wide forest views
  • Pesnik Mountain Hut (35 km) – A cozy and well-placed stop for refreshments

Day 3 - Cycling from Rogla to Ptuj

Forest Trails and Historic Towns!

Day three takes us from Rogla onto quiet forest roads, passing Pesk Hut, where the true character of the Pohorje forests comes to life. The route continues toward Klopni Summit and past Šumik Hut, riding through one of the most untouched areas of Pohorje. Tall spruce trees line the road, creating a calm and authentic mountain atmosphere. We then pass Cojzarica Hut, where a long and enjoyable descent leads us all the way down to Maribor, Slovenia’s second-largest city.

In Maribor, we make a short stop before continuing along the Drava River cycling path. The route follows the gentle rhythm of the river and takes us to Ptuj, the oldest town in Slovenia. We climb to Ptuj Castle, where panoramic views open over vineyards, the river, and the historic old town below. A walk through Ptuj’s medieval streets rounds off the day with local culture and food. After a relaxed afternoon, we transfer back to Rogla.

The route continues toward Matkov Kot, one of Slovenia’s most hidden and unspoiled mountain valleys. From there, we turn east and ride into the spectacular Logar Valley, considered one of the most beautiful glacial valleys in Europe. Towering peaks rise above the valley floor, creating a truly dramatic backdrop. We finish the stage at the end of the road, just below the impressive Rinka Waterfall, where a short walk takes us to a viewpoint close to the falls and the refreshing mist of the cascading water.

Day 5 - Cycling from Rogla to Slovenj Gradec

Gravel and Huts!

Day five starts with a pleasant descent from Rogla toward Mislinja, where we join the Štrekna Cycling Trail. This former railway line has been transformed into a smooth cycling path, guiding us at an easy pace through the valley to Šmartno. Here, we leave the valley floor and climb on gravel roads toward Razbor, where wide views open over the forests and rolling hills of the Koroška region.

The route continues toward Naravske Ledine Mountain Hut, a quiet and picturesque stop hidden deep in the eastern Pohorje forests. After a short break, we load the bikes and transfer back to Rogla, ready for another day in the Pohorje hills.

Day six begins with a transfer to Šentilj, where we get on the bikes and enter a completely different landscape. The terrain becomes gently rolling and mostly flat, with vineyards stretching along the Mura River. We follow the river’s flow, setting the pace for a relaxed and easy day of cycling.

The cycling path leads us to Gornja Radgona, the home of Slovenia’s most famous sparkling wine, produced here for over 170 years. There’s time for a short stop and optional tasting before continuing along the river toward Veržej. We ride through wide open fields and easy terrain, passing the Hotiza area and heading toward the far northeast of Slovenia. The day ends in Lendava, where we visit the iconic Vinarium Observation Tower.
