Scenic Climbs and Quiet Roads

This 7-day road cycling journey is built around a single base in Rogla, allowing you to explore Slovenia’s most diverse cycling terrain without changing hotels.

Designed for road cyclists, the tour covers an average of 90 km and 1,500 metres of elevation gain per day. A support vehicle is always close by, with optional route variations available on harder days. Off the bike, you’ll enjoy local culture, alpine landscapes, and relaxed evenings back at our Rogla base — making this the perfect blend of performance riding, comfort, and authentic Slovenian cycling.

Each day offers a new loop or point-to-point stage through alpine valleys, forested mountain passes, riverside roads, and historic towns. You’ll ride famous routes such as the Štrekna Cycling Trail, climb iconic passes like Črnivec and Sleme, and tackle challenging ascents including Mt. Kum, all while enjoying quiet roads and stunning natural scenery.

All of our trips are designed for maximum enjoyment on the bike. If any stage feels too challenging, our support vehicle is always available, so you can shorten the route whenever you need. Every stage can be adjusted to fit each rider’s abilities and preferences.

Day 1 - Cycling a loop to Rogla

Arrival & Rogla Base Camp!

On our first day, we’ll pick you up directly at Zagreb Airport, with a scheduled group pickup at 12:00 PM. Followed by a comfortable supported transfer to Rogla Ski Resort. Which will serve as our road cycling base camp for the next seven days in the heart of Slovenia.

After arrival and check-in, the afternoon is flexible and tailored to your energy level. If travel has left you feeling tired, you can enjoy a relaxed recovery afternoon, unwind in the wellness facilities, or go for an easy walk to explore the surrounding alpine landscape. Rogla is famous for its endless spruce forests, fresh mountain air, and the stunning Lovrenčka Lakes, one of Slovenia’s most beautiful high-altitude peat bogs.

For those arriving with plenty of energy, there’s the option to hop on the bike for an introductory loop ride to Rogla, a circular route designed to wake up the legs, test the roads, and get a first taste of the terrain we’ll be riding throughout the week.

In the evening, we gather for a welcome dinner, followed by a trip briefing, where our guides present the full cycling program, daily routes, and what to expect over the coming days.

⭐ Today’s Must-See Highlights

  • Rogla Ski Resort
  • Lovrenčka Lakes hike – 1h 30min hike (one way) but absolutely worth it!
  • Treetop Walk Rogla (Pot med krošnjami) — an elevated wooden walkway through the forest canopy, ending at a stunning 37-meter observation tower.

Day 2 - Cycling from Rogla to Logar Valley

Heart of the Kamnik–Savinja Alps!

Our second day begins with a 15km long, scenic descent into the valley, where the ride quickly settles into a relaxed rhythm. Then we follow the famous Štrekna Cycling Trail, one of Slovenia’s most iconic bike paths. This beautifully restored route was once a historic railway line connecting Velenje and Dravograd, and today it offers traffic-free cycling through tunnels, gorges, and forested landscapes — a true highlight for any road cyclist.

The trail leads us to Lake Velenje, a peaceful lakeside setting where we stop for a coffee break by the water. From here, the route takes us across gentle hills and quiet backroads toward the Upper-Savinja Valley, passing through the alpine village of Solčava before entering the spectacular Logar Valley.

This stunning glacial valley, surrounded by towering peaks of the Kamnik–Savinja Alps, marks one of the most scenic moments of the tour. At the end of the ride, our support vehicle awaits, allowing you to change and relax before taking a short walk to one of Slovenia’s most iconic natural landmarks — Rinka Waterfall, a dramatic 90-metre-high cascade plunging from the cliffs above the valley floor.

Day 3 - Cycling from Rogla to Slovenske Konjice

Monastic History & Countryside Riding!

Day three starts once again from our Rogla base camp, beginning with the familiar 15km long smooth descent into the valley. Now we are turning onto new and quieter roads that reveal a different side of eastern Slovenia. One of today’s highlights is the ride along the Žiče Valley, following the peaceful road toward Žiče Charterhouse (Žička kartuzija).

We make a mandatory stop at this remarkable historical site, founded in the 12th century as the first Carthusian monastery outside France and Italy. Surrounded by forests and silence, Žiče Charterhouse offers a unique insight into Slovenia’s medieval history and spiritual heritage.

From here, the route continues on a rolling but technically easy profile, perfect for relaxed endurance riding. We cycle through quiet countryside, vineyards, and small local towns, with optional café stops along the way.

The ride finishes in Slovenske Konjice, a charming town at the foot of the Pohorje hills. Here, we load the bikes onto our support vehicles and transfer back to Rogla, where you can recover and prepare for the next day’s adventure.

⭐ Today’s Must-See Highlights

  • Žiče Charterhouse (34 km) – A 12th-century Carthusian monastery and the first of its kind outside France and Italy, set in a peaceful forested valley

Day 4 - Cycling from Rogla to Kamnik

Alpine Passes, River Valleys & Ljubljana!

As we’ve come to expect, day four begins with a 15 km descent into the valley. We ride past Lake Velenje and continue back into the Upper-Savinja Valley, before turning away from the main regional road in Nazarje. From here, the route follows quiet backroads through Gornji Grad, cycling alongside the Dreta River.

The terrain gradually becomes more demanding as we start the climb to Črnivec Pass (902 m). This scenic mountain pass connects the Upper-Savinja Valley with the Kamnik area. After reaching the summit, a long descent leads us into the historic town of Kamnik, where we finish today’s ride.

Kamnik is one of Slovenia’s oldest towns, known for its medieval old town, traditional architecture, and its setting beneath the Kamnik–Savinja Alps. After loading the bikes onto our support vehicle, we transfer to Ljubljana, Slovenia’s capital. In the old town, you’ll have free time to explore, stroll along the river, and enjoy a late lunch. Afterward, we return to our hotel.

⭐ Today’s Must-See Highlights

  • Lake Velenje (46 km) – A tranquil lakeside stop, perfect for a coffee break
  • Črnivec Pass (90 km | 902 m) – A quiet alpine pass with forested climbs and beautiful mountain scenery

Day 5 - Cycling from Celje to Žalec

Epic Climbs & The Fountain of Beer!

Day five starts with a morning transfer to Celje, the third-largest city in Slovenia. The legs wake up fast with an immediate climb to Celje Castle, offering wide views over the Savinja Valley. From here, the route settles into a steady rhythm as we follow the Savinja River for much of the day.

We ride on a parallel cycling path toward Laško, then continue on quiet side roads right along the riverbanks to Zidani Most, where the Savinja flows into the Sava River, Slovenia’s longest river. This marks the start of today’s main challenge.

The road turns upward as we begin the long climb to Mount Kum, gaining almost 1,000 vertical metres in one effort. At the summit, we reach the Church of St. Neža and enjoy sweeping views across much of Slovenia. A long descent follows into Trbovlje, where you’ll spot the impressive 360-metre Trbovlje Chimney, the tallest chimney in Europe and the highest structure in Slovenia.

But the day isn’t over yet. A final climb takes us from Trbovlje up to Podmeja Pass (924 m). From there, a rewarding descent leads us all the way to Žalec, a town famous for its brewing tradition. We finish the ride at the Beer Fountain, where a tasting of local craft beers provides the perfect end to a big day in the saddle.

⭐ Today’s Must-See Highlights

  • Celje Castle (3 km) – Large medieval castle with panoramic views over Celje
  • Climb to Kum (56 km | ~1,000 m gain) – One of Slovenia’s toughest road climbs with stunning summit views

Day 6 - Cycling from Rogla to Lake Velenje

Border Roads and Alpine Views!

Day six begins with a short transfer back to the Štrekna Cycling Trail, which we already know — this time riding it in the opposite direction. A long, mostly flat section leads us smoothly toward Dravograd, making for fast and enjoyable riding.

In Dravograd, we turn off the main route and briefly cross the Austrian border. Here, the road kicks up sharply as we climb to Kommelgupf (around 1,200 m). From the top, the views open toward Mount Peca and the surrounding alpine landscape. If you prefer an easier day, this climb can be skipped by staying on the flat valley route.

After a rewarding descent, we return to Slovenia, where one final challenge awaits. The road rises again toward Sleme Pass (1,080 m), a quiet and scenic mountain pass surrounded by forests and remote alpine terrain. From the top, a long descent carries us all the way down to Lake Velenje.

We finish the stage right by the water, with time to relax and enjoy a well-earned drink by the lake, celebrating another great day on the bike.

⭐ Today’s Must-See Highlights

  • Kommelgupf (47 km | ~1,200 m) – Panoramic views toward Mount Peca; the climb can be skipped for an easier option
  • Sleme Pass (75.6 km | 1,080 m) – A peaceful alpine pass on quiet forest roads
  • Lake Velenje (105 km) – A relaxed lakeside finish, perfect for post-ride drinks
